Feldenkrais Method® for Musicians

Playing an instrument is a complex process that begins with a musical intention that is later translated into a series of movements involving weight, speed, orientation in space, and relationship to gravity. When these movements are inefficient and not effectively organized they can produce as non wanted result: excessive strain, unnecessary effort sometime dangerous for muscles and bones with not optimal musical results.

The Feldenkrais Method® is often beneficial for musicians. They can use the method to enhance their playing by focusing on improved body awareness, coordination, and overall movement efficiency. By exploring different movement patterns, musicians may discover ways to reduce tension, prevent repetitive strain injuries, and enhance their instrumental or vocal performance.

The Feldenkrais Method® can be particularly useful for addressing issues related to posture, breathing, and muscle tension that musicians may encounter.

The Feldenkrais Method® encourages a mindful exploration of movement, helping musicians to refine their technique and discover more comfortable and effective ways of playing.

Many musicians incorporate the Method in their practice routines to complement traditional music training and promote a holistic approach to their craft. Working with a certified Feldenkrais practitioner can provide personalized guidance tailored to the specific needs and goals of individual musicians.

The Feldenkrais Method® uses gentle, slow movements to awaken players’ awareness of how they use themselves and to allow them to feel vey small but important differences in quality. This allows to increase the awareness for new possibilities of movement integrated into the musicians’ performance.
